SLACAN Industries Inc. is Canada's largest designer and manufacturer of Poleline Hardware, which includes a full line of Transmission and Distribution products. We service the OEM market including the agricultural, mining and other industries. Our in-house processes include forgings, hot / cold stampings and weldments.

Our company is growing, and we are currently looking for an Upsetter Operator (Setup & Operate 1) in the Forge Department to join the team! Position Summary

Do you thrive in a hands-on environment and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment? Join our team as a Upsetter Operator (Setup & Operate 1) and be part of a dependable production crew where precision, efficiency and teamwork drive success. 

In this position you will be responsible to set up and operate equipment in the forge department safely and efficiently as directed. 

Responsibilities
  • Set up & run, heat treat, bulldozer, bar shear, plate shear, hot/cold presses, upsetters and other machines & operations as required & instructed.
  • All duties set forth in the Forge Operator position
  • Receives job instructions and job identification for above machines.
  • Selects tools, jigs and fixtures for job to be run. Sets up to specifications & proofs. 
  • Use material handling equipment to obtain materials, tools, parts and containers within department and locates near work center. 
  • Verify all components necessary to complete jobs are available.
  • Sets up machine’s, to operate for self or others; monitors and makes adjustments to tools and machinery as required during production run.
  • Approves set-up for production.
  • Instructs machine operators in all job and safety procedures, processes as required.
  • Checks machine for unsafe conditions and reports any maintenance or safety issues.
  • Submits all special or unusual items to Supervisor prior to approving first offs.
  • Operates machines on production as required.
  • Reports/records time and production quantities as required into the shop floor business system.
  • Keeps work area neat and orderly.
  • Any or all duties as assigned & directed.

Working Conditions

This role is physically demanding and takes place in a high-heat, heavy industrial environment. Team members in the forge department are regularly exposed to high temperatures, loud noise, and the use of heavy machinery. The position requires sustained physical labor, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy materials, and performing repetitive tasks. Applicants must be comfortable working in hot, fast-paced conditions and able to follow strict safety protocols at all times.
