Senior Manufacturing Engineer

SLACAN Industries Inc. is Canada's largest designer and manufacturer of Poleline Hardware, which includes a full line of Transmission and Distribution products. We service the OEM market including agricultural, mining, and other industries. Our in-house processes include forgings, hot / cold stampings and weldments.

Position Summary

Prime responsibility for implementation of new & modified manufacturing process on the shop floor including specification, design, installation, commissioning and ongoing daily support with a heavy focus on automation.  

To identify and execute shop floor improvements on existing lines resulting in significant improvements to output and/or costs.  

To provide technical support the following shop floor processes & equipment:  Hot Forging (hammers, upsetters, benders, presses), machining & assembly, robotics (Fanuc, ABB), welding. 

Responsibilities
  • Champion new automation projects
  • Methodical analysis & implementation of cost improvement projects 
  • Daily support of the shop floor for forging, machining, assembly, welding, heat treat, shearing, threading.
  • Maintain proper documentation during the execution of projects to support ISO requirements. 
  • Support plant level departments (manufacturing, quality, maintenance) to meet plant goals. 
  • Perform studies, reviews on various projects as required.
  • If qualified, support internal welding processes, up to an including writing weld procedures 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Engineering Degree or Engineering Technologist Diploma with minimum 5 years of hands-on manufacturing / process engineering shop floor experience
  • Experience in forging, shearing, induction heating, robotics, threading, machining, welding & heat treating is considered a significant advantage 
  • Significant advantage given to those who can qualify to be a “CWB Weld Engineer”
  • ISO / IATF exposure is considered an advantage 
  • Good working knowledge of 3D CAD software(Soldiworks) is an advantage. 
  • Proven experience in continuous improvement projects is a must 
  • Self-starter with a strong bias for action is required 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
